Hot Springs and Nature

Located 80 km from Osorno in the Los Ríos Region, Puyehue National Park offers 107,000 hectares of beautiful lush scenery. Relax in its therapeutic hot springs, explore the park's trails and discover treasures like crystalline rivers, waterfalls and Andean lakes surrounded by lush evergreen forests of coigüe, ulmo, tepa and mañío.

The park was founded in 1941 and is divided into three sectors: Antillanca, Anticura and Aguas Calientes. The first, Antillanca, is home to the Casablanca Volcano and a ski resort with 14 ski runs that skirt the volcano's slopes and offer stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside. Anticura boasts several waterfalls, Puma Lookout Point and the majestic Puyehue Volcano, which rises to 2,240 m. During the 1960 earthquake, the volcano released flowing rivers of lava that turned a vast tract of the dense forest into sand dunes and lava spillways. The third sector, Aguas Calientes, has cabins, camping areas and some smaller thermal pools. You can also pamper yourself at the nearby luxury hotel and thermal spa.

The park provides a great opportunity to learn about the native fauna of southern Chile, including pumas, foxes, quiques, coipos and vizcachas. You can also spot native birds like the choroy, chucao and the famous Chilean condor. If you are interested in natural history, there is an interesting display in the park's Information Center.

Another great attraction is Lake Rupanco. Its placid beaches are perfect for practicing water sports and fly fishing, and you can explore the native rainforest and watch deer roaming its islands. Remember to get a few pictures of the Puntiagudo and Osorno Volcanoes.
